You know people can be upset by Holocaust and Hitler jokes without having directly survived it, right?

Like say if they’re Jewish, and have family members who died in the Holocaust, or don’t but still don’t really like one of the most horrific genocides in human history committed in large part against their people made the butt of a joke?

Every year I do a specific service for the people who died in the Holocaust, on the holiest day of the year, in the middle of a 26 hour fast.

And I honestly do not mind, in the slightest, when dumb Hitler jokes are made.

Cool. You’re not every single Jew or every single person of any other group that was disproportionately targeted by the Holocaust (like Roma, for instance), though, and the fact that they don’t upset you doesn’t mean they won’t upset anyone else or that the things I said aren’t reasons why people are upset about those kinds of things.

I was addressing the questions you brought up in your post because it was really dismissive, especially considering it was reblogged from someone who clearly either a) has been upset enough by the update to want to warn other people about it or b) knows people who will be and wants to warn them about it. So clearly there are people who are really deeply upset, offended, and triggered by it and making a post questioning that is unnecessary and made it seem like you didn’t understand why anyone would be offended, so I answered that, so now we’re having this conversation, etc etc.

Ok the part that has always weirded me out the most about this is that the first Portal didn’t come out until a couple of months after the initial post in 2007.

this is my brother two years ago. we were at the park, just me and him, and he turned to me and said “kayla, don’t you ever wish there were no bad people in the world?” i thought it to be a funny thing for a 5 year old to say, but shrugged it off. last year, he didnt come home from school, we thought that being only in grade prep, he might’ve decided to go home with his bestfriend without telling us, but he didn’t.  the school confirmed they saw him get on his school bus after the bell rang. but thats all we knew, the bus driver said that he had gotten off a stop early, my mother was frantically searching the neighbourhood for him. we never found him. it’s been two years and we’re still looking for him, he was such a beautiful boy, and i cant help but think the worst. he could be anywhere in the world by now, so please, reblog this, no matter where you’re from, you could save a life. xx

The above article is an update.  Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost.  She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender.  She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.

Please, if you haven’t signed the petition, sign it, reblog it, ask your friends to sign it. We’ve managed to get 40K signatures for a pageant model, we’ve only gotten 11K for a little girl about to have her life ruined.  Lets get on the ball and spread the word.

The institution that she should be admited to, Charité in Berlin, has on April 18th informed the local paper that they would not admit this girl against her and her mother’s wishes.

While the problem is by no means solved, the last update sounds like Alex will not be institutionalised or separated from her family.

So is the institution refusing to admit her against her wishes despite what the court is ordering?

Could the court still force her into foster care?

I don’t know. However, I don’t think so, since the article seemed to imply that foster care would only follow after Alex (name edited by the publishing paper, and usually given as ‘Alexandra’ or ‘Alex’ for short) was ‘cured’ of her trans-ness.

Since this ‘cure’ is not going to happen any time soon and more and more people are protesting against it, it seems that this will not happen anytime soon.

(Also, the court didn’t order her to be institutionalised, as they can only do this if someone poses a serious threat to themselves or others. They allowed for her to be institutionalised should the people in charge [Alex’s parents or the social worker in charge of her health care] deem it necessary).

Uh. If you want a more detailed answer (or if you think I don’t understand shit), maybe someone who actually is from Germany and more familiar with the law and procedures will be able to give a better answer.
